We don’t have snow here in sunny Southern California, but unless you live in a cave, most folks know that many areas from the Midwest to East Coast have received more than their fair share lately !

Came across some helpful advice from the Hardscape Edge regarding the type of shovel tip to use for removing snow on your beautiful natural stone hardscape.

The three snow plow or shovel edge choices are: steel, rubber, and polyurethane.

Polyurethane edges on snow plows are the ideal choice for use on pavers. This is because they are resilient, absorb impact and conform to the surface being plowed rather than damaging the plowing surface. Polyurethane is also great because it will not leave metal shavings behind to cause rust stains in the spring. It is also very quiet making it ideal for use in residential areas.

For hand work, the softer edge of a poly push shovel tends to work the best in small areas. Unlike steel shovels, it has a tendency to ride over surface imperfections. A lot of natural cobblestone paving products have some uneven surface area, and antique/reclaimed cobble would certainly fall into this category. So keep a nice soft poly push shovel handy, and hang in there until spring !
